Hospitality Burnout Recovery Journal

Executive Guided Recovery Journal

A Year-Long Operating Instrument for Hospitality Leaders Carrying the Weight of the Property

Operational publishing · Leadership recovery. Published as an operational system for the people who carry the floor.

95 pp.
v1.0

Executive Summary

Leadership recovery in hospitality almost never fails because a leader did not care about it. It fails because it was never written down, never given a cadence, and never treated as part of how the property is run.

The Hospitality Burnout Recovery Journal™ is an Executive Guided Recovery Journal: a structured, private instrument a leader keeps on the desk for a full year. It runs on six operating cadences — Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Annual, and Emergency — and turns reflection into something with a rhythm, a record, and a set of trackers behind it.

The twenty Daily Recovery Spreads and eight Weekly Reflection Spreads are repeatable, printable operating templates: they establish the practice and are reprinted as often as the year requires. The twelve Monthly Recovery Reviews, four Quarterly Reset Reviews, Personal Leadership Commitments, seven Trackers, and Year-End Reflection form the year-long record, completed once and kept.

It is written for the floor and for the office behind it. It offers no diagnosis, no treatment, and no program — only structure, language, and an honest place to see the year as it actually ran.

Executive Author Statement

Written by Jamie Oakley, Founder of Hospitality Reset™, drawing on more than two decades of hospitality leadership. This journal is a reflection and operating instrument for hospitality leaders. It is not clinical, diagnostic, or therapeutic, and it makes no medical claim of any kind.

Why This Guide Matters

The people who hold a hotel together are the least likely to schedule their own recovery, and the most likely to notice the cost of skipping it long after it has been paid.

A cadence is what turns intention into practice. Six of them, written down, are harder to abandon in week three than a promise made in January.

Trackers here are data, not judgment. Trends matter; individual days do not.

This journal is a private instrument. It exists so a leader can be honest on paper before the operation asks them to be composed in person.

Business Problems Solved

What this edition is built to address.

  • Leadership recovery that never survives a busy week.

  • No cadence for reflection between the shift and the next crisis.

  • Boundaries that exist in principle and disappear in practice.

  • Warning signs a leader notices only in hindsight.

  • Year-round pressure with no scheduled reset points.

  • Recovery held in memory rather than kept as a record.

Who This Guide Is For

  • General Managers
  • Directors of Operations
  • Regional Leaders
  • Department Heads
  • Assistant General Managers

Business Outcomes

What leaders are equipped to do.

  • Hold a daily morning reset and evening recovery close that fit inside a real shift.

  • Run a weekly reflection that names the week's costs as clearly as its wins.

  • Keep a monthly and quarterly record of how capacity, habits, and boundaries actually moved.

  • See patterns across the year instead of reacting to individual days.

  • Enter each quarter with a deliberate reset rather than an accumulated backlog.

  • Close the year with a written reflection and a set of personal leadership commitments.

Operational Impact

Supports stronger:

  • ·Leadership sustainability
  • ·Boundary discipline
  • ·Reflection cadence
  • ·Personal operating visibility
  • ·Quarterly reset planning
  • ·Year-long leadership record

Operational cadence

Structured for pre-shift, mid-shift, and post-shift use.

Pre-shift

Read at the desk before the floor opens. Carried into the brief.

Mid-shift

Referenced during pressure — escalation, recovery, handoff.

Used in debrief, scoring, and quiet coaching the morning after.

Beyond the page

We don't only publish these systems. We install them.

Three ways to begin

Choose the entry point that fits the property.

Most operators start in one of three places — the field guides, a consultation, or a property licensing conversation. Each one is a door into the same ecosystem.
